Show Me The Rapists

Show Me Shorts film festival has chosen to include in it's Crack Me Up selection of comedic short films The Rapists, set to enjoy it's world premier on November the 8th.

Written by veteran New Zealand actor Greg Smith and filmed in Auckland by Digital Guinea Pig Films, The Rapists follows the chance meeting of two German soldiers in Russia during the Second World War. As their tales unfold, the film asks if it is better to pretend to be a monster than to tell the truth?

It may seem strange fare for a comedy, but the humor is black and the wit sharp. “My humor can be quite dark. It's like watching someone fall over, you can't help but laugh at them,” says Greg.

Filmed with a low budget and set in a single room, The Rapists showcases the power of tension and expectation in it's careful timing and superb performances from Greg Smith and Benedict Wall.

Says producer Nicola Peeperkoorn, “When you're offered material like The Rapists, you can't say no. Here is something that is darkly funny on the surface with a larger social message underneath – a quality which is rare.”

Digital Guinea Pig Films have been active in the Auckland film scene since the beginning of 2007. They are currently in post production of their highly anticipated first feature film, The Richmond Family Massacre.

Show Me Shorts Festival is very excited to bring the world premier of The Rapists to Auckland. Says festival founder Gina Dellabarca, 'The Rapists' is a shocking and controversial black comedy that we are sure will get people talking.

The Rapists will be premiered at 6:30pm on Saturday November the 8th at the Academy Cinema during the Crack Me Up showcase of the Show Me Shorts Film Festival.
