NZ Nuclear
Documentary Scores Major International Prize and
Audiences
New
Zealand documentary The Nuclear Comeback has been recognized
internationally at the world’s oldest and most prestigious
environmental film festival in Italy, winning the Best
International Documentary prize.
The Cinemambiente Awards – judged by a panel of international environmentalists and renowned filmmakers were held in Turin this week and attended by many Italian politicians – including the Italian Minister for the Environment.
“A truly important
film about the most important environmental issue of our
times … the fraught decision about how we produce our
energy…”
- Cinemambiente 2008
“Like
the best documentaries, it is engaging, nuanced and avoids
preaching.”
- Leo Hickman, The Guardian
The award is the latest triumph for the documentary, which has already been selected for ten top international film festivals, and notched up an exceptional global sales record – including a prized sale to the Sundance Channel in the US.
Producer
and director Justin Pemberton is proud this recognition
shows NZ is not only producing world class documentaries but
is continuing to provoke global debate about the use of
nuclear power.
The documentary was screened on TV One on Saturday February 2nd this year at 9.40pm as part of the channel’s blue chip festival series.
It will screen here again in Wellington on opening night of the Reel Earth Film Festival, Thursday November 20, 6pm.
