Grow your own Christmas gifts with NZ Gardener

NZ Gardener is encouraging Kiwis to look to their gardens for Christmas gift inspiration this holiday season to beat the credit crunch and create memorable and lasting Christmas gifts.

“Growing your own fruit and veges is back in fashion, so why not take it one step further and grow your own gifts,” says NZ Gardener editor Lynda Hallinan.

“Edible gardens will now be in full swing, salads will be looking lush by Christmas and roses blooming. Pot up some herbs, plant some salad greens and decorate a potted Pohutukawa – all ready for December 25th.

“Everyone loves receiving homemade gifts, and it is even better when they are delicious, look good and can be enjoyed together. What better way to say Merry Christmas to your friends and family,” she says.

The December issue is filled with great gift ideas all from your garden to help you save money (and patience) this Christmas.

Strawberries, salads, peas and new potatoes – you name it, they all are delicious seasonal treats and will make gorgeous Christmas gifts. And the magazine is full of recipes and suggestions to turn these garden wonders into homemade jams, sweet treats, jellies and cordials.

The December issue also has great suggestions on gifts to help new gardeners find their green thumbs in 2009. And if you’re still stuck, then get a copy of NZ Gardener’s Homegrown 3 or Garden Diary – the perfect Christmas stocking fillers for gardeners.
