The 13th MONOPOLY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS is fast approaching and Hasbro, maker of the world's most iconic board game, is inviting all Monopoly enthusiasts in New Zealand to roll and deal their way to Las Vegas in the search for a New Zealand representative!

Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch heats should log on to

In a bid to find a Kiwi Monopoly Champion to fly the flag in Las Vegas, the national Monopoly Championships, in association with Whitcoulls, will consist of three regional heats in 2009 before a Grand Final in Auckland in April 2009 when the New Zealand champion will be crowned.
The first of the three national heats is to be held in Auckland on the 15th February and will see 20 competitors battle it out to win a place at the Grand Final in Auckland. The following heats will be held in Wellington on the 21st February & Christchurch on the 28th February. Competitors will be seated in tables of four players playing 3 rounds each and the competition will be based on a points system to judge the winner.
Stephen Imm, brand manager for Monopoly, says that Monopoly is not all a game of chance. "There is some serious strategy involved to play the game at a high level and this leads to some really interesting competitions.
"In fact we are asking those who register to give us their top Monopoly tip at the time of registration and those with the top 20 tips will go through to the regional finals."
Like the Olympics, the Monopoly World Championships take place every four years. Tokyo was the last host city where representatives from 36 countries rolled and negotiated their way round the board. In 2009, Hasbro is excited to announce Las Vegas as the glitzy host city.
The New Zealand Monopoly Champion will win an all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for them and a friend, a seat in the tournament and the chance to compete for fantastic prizes including the overall World Champion title, a full Monopoly bank worth over $20,000 U.S dollars and a magnificent trophy.
To enter, you must be 18 years or over. Register online with your top Monopoly Tip for your chance to represent New Zealand at the world championships.
