Ernest Adams Dishes Up More Than 500 Puddings To Kiwis In Need This Christmas

3,200 serves of Christmas pudding for the Auckland City Mission

Auckland, 16 December 2008 - To ensure Kiwis don’t miss out on Christmas pudding this year, Ernest Adams has donated 540 puddings to the Auckland City Mission for families needing assistance over the festive season.

The Christmas pudding donation equates to 3,200 serves of pudding and weighs close to a whopping 400kgs.

The puddings are being distributed via the City Mission to food banks across Auckland this week - including food banks in Hillsborough, Glen Eden, Wiri, Mangere and Mt Eden.

Bruce Peden, General Manager of Ernest Adams, which is part of the Goodman Fielder food company, says he hopes that despite the current economic climate, other food manufacturers will be in the position to donate product this year.

“We know times are tough - reports are showing donations to organisations like the Auckland City Mission are down, and yet demand for food parcels and emergency assistance is up.

However we want to encourage other food manufacturers to give - whether it’s big or small - to help organisations like the Auckland City Mission give New Zealanders the best possible Christmas - every little bit helps.”

Diane Robertson, CEO, Auckland City Mission says support like that of Ernest Adams is integral to keeping spirits up over the holiday season.

“We have seen more and more families requesting assistance this year and, as we know, Christmas time always brings extra costs for families. We are grateful to organisations such as Ernest Adams who come to the party and help us provide a special Christmas for Kiwis in need.”

This holiday season the Auckland City Mission will distribute 1,000 emergency food parcels and 700 Christmas hampers to Aucklanders in need; host New Zealand's largest Christmas Dinner for 1,600 at Auckland Town Hall, and distribute 25,000 Christmas presents to those who otherwise wouldn't get one.

The Ernest Adams Christmas Pudding donation is in addition to another food parcel initiative by Goodman Fielder called ‘Daily Bread’. Goodman Fielder, via its Quality Bakers brand, currently donates 630 loaves per week to the Auckland City Mission. In addition, Goodman Fielder also donates 200 loaves each per week to the Salvation Army in Manukau, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin, and 200 loaves to the Tauranga Foodbank.
