$1 Million Christmas Present For Hikurangi Local

A Hikurangi local will wake up to over a $1 million in his bank account on Christmas Day thanks to a Lotto First Division win.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, had had a run of luck which is why he bought a few more tickets for last weekend’s draw according to the retailer at the Hikurangi Four Square in Whangarei.

Retailer Ashwini Lal says he always buys his tickets from their store, and likes the fact that the profits of Lotto go to charity – but he is even more thrilled that he has won $1,034,516.

“With just over 1,300 people in the town, we were excited that it went to a local – as it’s great for the winner, and great for the community,” says Mrs Lal.

“It has been really busy since the win, even people from out of town have been coming to buy tickets here. I also had one customer get me to rub his ticket because he thought I’d be a good luck charm.”

This weekend’s Lotto draw will also make at least one instant millionaire with Lotto’s Holiday Promotion says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

“With this exciting Christmas promotion, one lucky player is guaranteed $1 million, and two players a $500,000 cash prize towards a bach, and then there’s Lotto Powerball which has jackpotted to $5 million,” says Mr McLeay.

All Lotto players who purchase a Triple Dip between Sunday 14 December, and 7pm, Saturday 27 December 2008, are given vouchers for the special draw to win one of 100 fabulous extra prizes in Lotto’s Holiday 100 Promotion.
