Eastwood's Gran Torino A Winning Machine

Monday 02 February, 2009: GRAN TORINO has muscled out the competition to top the weekend box office and the secure the highest ever opening weekend for a Clint Eastwood film in New Zealand at the same time.

The popularity of the movie in New Zealand follows on from successes in the US and Australia, where the film reached number one in both markets in wide release.

GRAN TORINO held the number one spot at both the New Zealand and Australian box office over the weekend.

Eastwood has enjoyed rave reviews for his portrayal of grizzled Korean-war veteran Walt Kowalski, an iron-willed man staunch in his long held views of life and happy in his own company. When unwanted company from his immigrant neighbours is forced upon him however, he in turn is forced to confront lifelong prejudices.
