‘V’ World Indoor Speed Record attempt at TOP GEAR Live

Top Gear Live is hitting Auckland next week and as part of the show, Kiwi racing driver Greg Murphy will take to the wheel of an ultra-fast Ultima GTR in an attempt to set the ‘V’ World Indoor Speed Record.

The live show's producer, Rowland French, has confirmed that the ‘V’ World Indoor Speed Challenge record attempt will be made on a breathtakingly short 66-metre indoor stage at the ASB Showgrounds.

Murphy, who is hosting Top Gear Live with the BBC's Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson, has been chosen to attempt the record based on his no-fear attitude and racing experience. To set the record, Murphy will have to get a perfect launch, keep his foot down for as long as he dares, then slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a solid concrete wall.

‘V’ Energy Drink is excited to be supporting the World Indoor Speed Challenge. The sponsorship of this record attempt is part of ‘V’s ongoing association with motorsport events.

``V is a great fit for the World Indoor Speed Challenge - it definitely gives you the energy to get things done - and that's exactly what Murphy's going to need to break the record,’’ says ‘V’ Brand Manager, Sean Wiggans.

There have been numerous attempts made on world indoor speed records but Greg Murphy is hoping to blow these out of the water with the Ultima GTR at next week’s Top Gear Live show.
``The Ultima GTR is the fastest accelerating car we know of, able to do 0-100mph and back to zero in nine seconds, so it is the perfect car to attempt the ‘V’ World Indoor Speed Challenge in,’’ says live show producer, Rowland French.

``Both Jeremy and Richard would love to be the first people to do it, but out of fairness they have bravely nominated Greg Murphy. As we all know motor-racing drivers have no fear so we thought Murph would be the perfect person to drive at a wall at breakneck speed in near darkness.’’
