A smorgasbord of events on offer at Botanic Garden Festival
The Alice in
Wonderland play by the local Nathan Homestead drama club is
just part of the great line up of free events at the
upcoming Botanic Garden Festival to be held at the Auckland
Botanic Gardens, on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29
March.
Manukau City Council Events Manager, Barbara Cox encourages families to come along to the weekend event, including the gardener’s market on Sunday – a highlight in the line up for the planned festivities.
“With
autumn on the doorstep it will be a time to think about
planting. The public can buy plants direct from suppliers as
well as tools, pots and more at the various
stalls.
To spice things up renowned chef, Peta
Mathias will be coming along to enjoy the morning as well as
the one and only “Bugman”, Ruud Kleinpast, well-known
for his love of nature and bugs. In the atrium there will
also be an exhibition of the fabulous works by nature and
flower photographer, Sally Tagg.
Saturday and Sunday will see a smorgasbord of activities for children and adults including the biggest pumpkin competition, displays of organic sculpture, funky garden art and workshops on how to grow your own edible garden.
“If that isn’t enough to keep the family entertained for the weekend, there will also be face painters, roving artists, a ‘riddle romp’, and a chance for the kids to explore and experience the recently opened Burma trail through beautiful Totara Park”, says Ms Cox.
On Sunday, there will be worm farming and composting workshops and more entertainment for the kids including the Mad Hatters tea party, where everyone is encouraged to bring along a picnic and join the fun. To finish the day there will be the Australasian balloon hat record attempt.
The event is a joint venture with Manukau City Council, Auckland Botanic Gardens and Manukau Beautification Trust.
