From Sausage Stew to Steak for Christchurch $4.3 Million Winner
A retired Christchurch man’s trip to the butcher in search of sausages for a stew resulted in the purchase of a Triple Dip ticket worth $4.3 million, says NZ Lotteries’ Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, walked past Whitcoulls Columbo Street on his way to the butchers, and decided on the spur of the moment to purchase a Triple Dip ticket.
His ticket ended up being worth a massive $4,333,333, with $4 million from winning Powerball First Division and $333,333 from a third share of Lotto First Division.
The winner found out he was a big winner after eating his sausage stew on Saturday night – when he sat down to watch the live Lotto draw.
“I saw the grandad win $1 million on the draw and was so pleased for them. I then went into shock when I realised that I was also a big winner. I did not get any sleep that night."
The winner is currently renting, so plans to buy a small house and a new car with his winnings. However, he does not want a ‘flash’ car. He also plans to help out his family.
However, first on the shopping list will be ingredients for a big feast. “And this time there will be steak on the menu,” he adds.
In February, two winners from Masterton and Lower Hutt won $5.2 million each when they shared Powerball First Division.
