Pyjama Party -Kids At The UCOL Centre Don Their Nightwear

Children at the UCOL Kids Early Education Centre in Masterton supported the Association of Students at UCOL’s foodbank with a pyjama day.

The foodbank was started by AS@U President, Jo Hymers, to help needy students during the current economic downturn. It benefits all students currently studying at UCOL’s three campuses, Palmerston North, Whanganui and Wairarapa.

“While AS@U can’t afford to help every student financially, we are able to do this for them,” Jo says. “We’ve had tremendous support from Wairarapa’s UCOL Kids as well as other groups within UCOL, including staff.”

Carolyn Brooks, the Centre Supervisor at UCOL Kids Early Education Centre in Masterton, decided to run the Pyjama Day because a large percentage of the children’s parents are students at UCOL.

“One of the kids had asked for a pyjama day so we decided to help out AS@U at the same time,” Carolyn says. “If the kids brought along a can of food they could wear their pyjamas!”

In the future Jo hopes to get community garden groups involved to provide fresh vegetables for students.
