Big Finale For Teretonga Season
It will be quite a finale to the 2008/2009 motor racing season at Teretonga Park this Sunday.
The track has picked up the unexpected bonus of hosting the final round of the ENZED V8 Utes Series after the cancellation of the final round due to the Hampton Downs circuit not being completed in time. This has given southern motorsport fans an exciting final with defending champion Matt Lockwood (The Phantom) and Caine Lobb (The Ginja Ninja) just one point apart after five rounds of racing. Behind them Mack 'BOMBA' Peach and Simon Beirne (Jnr Burner) will dispute the final podium spot. Adding to the action this weekend will be kiwi international star Chris Pither who joins the series for the first time. Pither has done most of his racing in Australia where he has raced V8 Utes and V8 Supercars.
The Utes have an exciting series format with marble draw grids part of the mix and they feature that most passionate of battles - Ford versus Holden!
Top kiwi
driver Angus Fogg of Auckland makes his third Teretonga
appearance of 2009 this weekend. In January Fogg, who
finished sixth overall in the BNT V8s Championship last
weekend, raced his Falcon in the V8 Championship. He
returned last month and drove brilliantly in a Mini at the
Classic SpeedFest and this weekend he will compete in a
Chevrolet
Nova, a 1963 Chevy Nova SS Coupe owned by
Gareth Hall of Christchurch. The fully rebuilt LG Nova has
been in storage for over eight years, and had its first
outing in that time with Fogg behind the wheel at Powerbuilt
Tools Raceway in Christchurch two weeks ago. Fogg posted a
race win and a second place, with his fastest lap only a
tenth of a second off the lap record for the category.
Since then the car has undergone further development under
Fogg’s guidance, and he is quietly confident of further
success at Teretonga Park this weekend. Local drivers in the
class include Wayne Tuffley in his Mustang, Dave Robertson
(Hillman Imp) and Stu Mitchell in a Ford Anglia.
The Super 6 Saloons will supply another dose of Ford versus Holden rivalry. Top runners include Christchurch drivers Simon Grace (Commodore) and Wayne Christie (Falcon) along with Twizel's Gary Sutherland (Commodore). Local drivers include Mervyn Lloyd of Invercargill in a Commodore, Gore drivers Paul and John Muir also in Commodores plus Russell Keeler of Gore in a Falcon.
The Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans races have drawn an absolutely amazing field. Scott O'Donnell of Invercargill will turn out in his superb Porshce GT3 RSR while Phil Mauger of Christchurch has entered his Porsche GT3. Bruce Davidson and David Garden of Alexandra have their Chev Corvette's among the entries while top local runners Brendan Mason in a Camaro and Robert Ralston in a Nissan Silvia are also on the gird.
Meanwhile Damon Leitch, fresh from his spectacular finish to the MTA Formula Ford Championship at Pukekohe last weekend, will be racing his Zero Fees Stealth in the Sports & Racing Car events.
The action begins at 9.45am on Sunday. Tickets cost $15 for adults while children under 14 are free.
