Electrolux renews The Food Show sponsorship

Global home appliance leader Electrolux is showing it shares New Zealanders’ passion for food by renewing its sponsorship of New Zealand’s foodie favourite, The Food Show, for the fifth year.

Last year more than 66,600 Kiwis indulged their taste buds by visiting The Food Show in its three locations – Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The Christchurch Food Show kicks off on Friday (3 April) this week.

Rosalie Davison of Electrolux New Zealand said that by sponsoring The Food Show, Electrolux showed it was more than just an appliance manufacturer – it was a partner in the food-lover’s lifestyle.

“All the evidence suggests that even during a recession New Zealanders turn to dining in and home entertaining as a more affordable way to socialise and treat themselves,” Davison says

The latest Retail Trade Survey data from Statistics New Zealand shows that expenditure on restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs and takeaway food are all down while liquor retailing and supermarket and grocery store sales are on the rise.

“New Zealanders have a love affair with food and if sharing a meal with friends at restaurants and cafes becomes too expensive, they bring the experience home.

“Electrolux is their partner in home entertaining, by constantly striving to produce appliances that make it easier and even more enjoyable.”

Some of those appliances will be on show at The Food Show’s “Electrolux Cooking Theatre”, which this year will be hosting Australian celebrity chef Donna Hay. Top chefs will be cooking up a storm using Electrolux appliances such as the Maxisense Induction cooktop and the large capacity Electrolux E:Line electronic ovens.

North Port Events CEO Dona White said The Food Show is a great event for Kiwis wanting inspiration for home entertaining.

“The Food Show exhibitors offer home entertainers those little touches of luxury that enhance the feel good factor of food in a recession,” she says. “As people seek to indulge in affordable luxury we are finding consistent re-bookings by luxury food and delicatessen producers.”

This year visitors to The Food Show also have the chance to win the “Ultimate Food Hamper” with a selection of delectable goodies packaged within a modern Electrolux stainless steel fridge.

The stylish Electrolux E:Line side-by-side fridge will be packed with delicious wine, cheeses, meats and other deli products from The Food Show exhibitors, stocked for a slightly indulgent recession-busting dinner party!

The Food Show 2009 runs in Christchurch from April 3-5, in Wellington from May 8-10 and in Auckland from July 30-August 2.
