Visual Arts Graduate has work collected by Wallace Art Trust

Nadine Smith,  graduate from the Whitireia Bachelor of Applied Arts (Visual Arts) in 2008, has had her work collected by the Wallace Art Trust.

The trust was started by James Wallace in the mid 1960’s and its aim is to assist emerging artists both through patronage and promotion via exhibitions. The trust’s collection includes over 4,000 artworks today. It is a cultural resource for present and future generations.

Smith says “I feel over the moon to have my work in The Wallace Arts Trust collection. It was extremely exciting and validating to receive a call from the Trust expressing interest in my work "Tall Order".  When they phoned again weeks later to say they wanted to purchase the work, it was all I could do to contain myself and not sound like a fledgling out of the nest - yeehaaa!” 

Smith is from Wellington and has already made her name in the industry.  She recently was awarded the Dowse merit award and the Julie Auburn Award (from Pataka), she also featured on a freeview program The Gravy which is a high-end production featuring artists from around New Zealand and was selected to be part of Best in Show 2009 exhibition, in the prestigious Objectspace gallery, Auckland, from 24 January – 21 February. 

“One of my goals is to have my work seen by a wider audience, so having the work in the Trust's collection means that it will be seen by more than the dust mites under my bed.  It will be exhibited at Rannoch House, in Auckland.  The Trust also exhibit art from their collection around New Zealand, so who knows where it might turn up.  I'm all fired up to keep making.”
