Camp Quality NZ to Stage National Awareness Week
Camp Quality, a not for profit volunteer organisation which provides support programmes for children living with cancer and their families, launches its annual national awareness week this Saturday, April 11.
New Zealanders will have the chance
to make a difference to the lives of children living with
cancer by participating in various fundraising activities
held by Lions Clubs during the
week-long period (April
11-18). Lions Clubs across the country are the key Camp
Quality partners in the programme.
One major event in Auckland is a Camp Quality Charity Auction to be held at the Andrew Simms European grand opening and launch of three new marques to its Auckland franchise. The charity auction, at the Andrew Simms Newmarket showroom, includes a range of high value experiences and items, including a Fiat 500, the New Zealand and European Small Car of the Year.
Invited guests will be treated to a European-themed cocktail evening featuring top New Zealand band Op Shop and a guest appearance by Camp Quality NZ Ambassador and Warriors come-back Stacey Jones.
Camp Quality, dedicated to bringing fun and laughter to the lives of children living with cancer, organised its first camp in New Zealand 24 years ago and now holds camps annually in five regions throughout the country. More than 300 children aged 5 to 16 attend the camps.
Camp Quality Chairman Jim Grierson says “Each year at a cost of more than $500,000 we deliver, through the commitment of our 750 volunteers and willing helpers, fun programmes for children living with cancer. At our camps we provide opportunities for children to put their illness aside for a week and just focus on having fun.”
According to Child Cancer Foundation statistics, about 150 young New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer each year. Camp Quality passionately believes in the power of fun to help these children and their families overcome the challenges cancer brings.
“The goal is to provide the campers with fun and comradeship combined with achievable challenges to encourage them to focus on the positive aspects of their lives,” says Mr Grierson.
Camp Quality strives to provide a safe and secure environment for the young campers involving one-on-one support and a commitment to high standards of excellence in training their volunteers and in organising their activities.
