Film Competition Asks Do You Hate Your Teenager?

For Immediate Release:
April 8, 2009

Film Competition Asks Parents, "Do You Hate Your Teenager?"

Registration has opened for New Zealand's largest film competition, with the organiser of the V Energy 48HOURS: Furious Filmmaking asking parents nationwide one simple question, "Do you hate your teenager?"

V Energy 48HOURS creator Ant Timpson wants parents to sign up their awful offspring to the cinematic equivalent of an army boot camp, "Any parent who is sick to death of their teenager's snide looks, their angsty alienation and their crackhead craving to be online 24/7 needs to register the buggers with us for one weekend. We'll shove a handful of double-happys up their creatively dormant backsides!"

The annual competition now in its 7th year, attracts everyone from skilled professionals to school kids, with everyone assembling a squad of gung-ho movie desperadoes to help them achieve a minor miracle; the completion of an entire short film in just one weekend. Past winners have gone on to great fame and a wee bit of fortune.

The shorts are then screened in cinemas throughout New Zealand with the winning shorts from each city competing against Peter Jackson's Wildcard picks on C4 Television, with one film being crowned the Grand National Champ. Last year over 600 teams registered with over 8,000 people participating nationwide for a chance to take home a chunk of the huge prize pool.

A warm up to the big event is the annual 'V'48SECONDS contest in which anyone can re-create a famous movie scene (in 48 seconds or less) using V Energy Drink cans or bottles. The Winner will walk away with a years supply of 'V', $1000 cash, 4 iPod Shuffles, a 37" Toshiba LCD TV and more. See last years winner, a note perfect recreation of The Warriors here.
