Smashproof return to rock Manukau

Manukau-grown Hip-Hop superstars Smashproof who have taken New Zealand by storm with their platinum-selling single ‘Brother’ and their smash-hit debut album THE WEEKEND, are coming back to Manukau for yet another rocking performance.

Last week, Smashproof's debut single ‘Brother’ notched up its ninth consecutive week atop the New Zealand singles chart.

Smashproof (Tyree, Deach and Young Sid) are performing at Manukau Square on 23 May as part of 'Manukau Celebrates Music Month' concert series organised by Manukau City Council.

The concert series is part of New Zealand Music Month and is a great way to celebrate local artists succeeding in the industry, says Leisa Siteine, manager of Manukau Arts.  “There’s always young talent out there who will see the performers on stage and be inspired to one day enter the music industry themselves.”

Also featuring in the series are Crossbreed, One Sound, Oceania Storm and Cydel.

Opening the free, outdoor concert series on 9 May will be Crossbreed and One Sound. Crossbreed have just produced their first video single - ‘Dance Baby.’ Crossbreed are made up of GKilla (GiantKilla) and Ryze, two talented young musicians who are poised to excel in Rap, Song and Dance with their soon-to-be released debut album.

The second concert on 16 May sees 12-piece reggae band Oceania Storm hit the stage. After a busy summer with various gigs around Auckland, this band has a full sound that’s gaining a huge following.

The concerts conclude on 30 May with Cydel, fresh from their USA tour. Hot Manukau favourites, Cydel are one of the finalists at the 2009 S³ Pacific Music Awards in the Radio 531pi Best Pacific Group category.

All concerts are free and begin at 12 noon at Manukau Square, near Westfield Manukau.
