"Yellow-eyed penguin" themed campervan competition

For immediate release

Te Radar calls for design entries for a "yellow-eyed penguin" themed campervan

Wicked Campers NZ has teamed up with the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust with a competition for budding graphic designers, artists or anyone with a creative bent to design their very own yellow-eyed penguin themed campervan and win a "wicked" holiday.

Te Radar, an ambassador for the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust will be judging the entries alongside representatives from Wicked Campers NZ and the Trust. He says, "Hoiho – you gotta go, you need a wicked conser-vacation! – get drawing and send your entry in".

The winning design will receive a seven-day campervan holiday within New Zealand for up to three people in their very own designed van. The prize also includes NZ$100 worth of petrol, a VIP tour to an exclusive trust reserve on the Otago Peninsula and an annual subscription to the Trust supporters club.

Paul Bell from Wicked Campers NZ is pleased to be able to support the Trust.

"This is an awesome project, which will help the Trust raise awareness of their conservation activity in a fun way and help save endangered yellow-eyed penguins. The van will be painted in Auckland and the winner and two mates can go on a roadtrip of a lifetime".

Wicked Campers NZ will also be providing the Trust with an annual percentage of the penguin themed campervan hire to show their support to a worthwhile cause.

Sue Murray, General Manager of the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust said this is an exciting new relationship for the Trust with Wicked Campers NZ.

"We are thrilled that Wicked Campers NZ has chosen to support the Trust in this new venture for us. The campervan is bound to attract attention once the winning entry is chosen. Anyone can enter a design so kids, students and adults can show off their creative skills".

Funds raised by the rental of the van will go toward conservation activity that includes - the production and planting of approx. 10,000 native trees and shrubs each year, restoring coastal habitats, fencing and purchasing land or negotiating protective status for breeding habitats as well as maintenance of the habitats.

Anyone interested in submitting a design can visit the Trust website www.yellow-eyedpenguin.org.nz for a competition entry form or contact the Trust directly on 03 479 0011. (Designs can be on paper or electronic). Entries close on 31 July 2009. Terms and conditions apply (see Trust website for details).
