Sian Ruck selected in White Ferns for Women’s Twenty20 World Cup

State Wellington Blaze left-arm opening bowler Sian Ruck is one of three new caps in the White Ferns side to contest the ICC Women’s World Cup in June.

Ruck joins Wellington Blaze teammates Sophie Devine and Lucy Doolan in the 14-strong squad who will contest the Twenty20 tournament in England in June, which takes place at the same time as the men’s World Cup tournament.

State Wellington Blaze coach Mark Borthwick says Ruck’s selection is a terrific reward for her commitment and dedication to her game.

“This selection is really well deserved for a player who has worked exceedingly hard over the last three seasons. Sian has made her fitness for cricket a priority and has made many sacrifices on her journey and has now achieved her goal,” says Borthwick “Sian is a great advertisement for where hard work and selfless determination can get you.” 25-year old Ruck has been a regular member of the Blaze team in both the State League and State League Twenty20 forms of the game. She has played 32 games and has a career economy rate of 3.36 runs per over.

Devine and Doolan re-join the side after both featuring in the White Ferns team that finished runners-up to England in the ICC One-Day World Cup final in Australia in March.

Doolan was subsequently named as Cricket Wellington’s Women’s Player of the Year, while Devine has also had an outstanding season for the Blaze and the White Ferns. Devine’s return to Wellington this summer from Christchurch where she had previously moved was made possible by the generous sponsorship and financial assistance of Railway Metro New World.
