Established artists from Gallery 1847 in Pauatahanui, Jan Cromie and Angela Rickard are again exhibiting in the city. This time they are collaborating with emerging Otaki artist Bee Doughty-Pratt and well-known sculptor Bruce Winter. The result is a stunning collection of diverse artwork which includes abstract, figurative and landscape paintings. Large abstract works in oil in vibrant earthy colours or arresting neutrals. Smaller works in eye-catching primaries or subtle tone-on-tone acrylic creations draw the eye in. This collection is complemented by a selection of unusual sculptures from Bruce Winter – who uses stone, wood, metal and found objects to create his fascinating works – always different, always a talking point. Together these four accomplished artists are presenting an exhibition of talent and style you will enjoy.

Gallery 1847 is housed in Taylor Stace Cottage which is to close for restoration. The Cottage is thought to be the oldest residential building in the Wellington region and a Category A listed building. Hence the Gallery will also close its doors temporarily. This ‘Solidarity’ exhibition at Thistle Hall by artists associated with Gallery 1847, is a key element in a month of innovative Gallery 1847 farewell celebrations. These start with the opening of Bee Doughty-Pratt’s exhibition ‘Still Waters Run Deep’ at Pauatahanui on Saturday 2 May. And then, before the doors finally close, 1847’s celebrations will end with a week of on-site fun and special offers between 18 – 24 May. All those in the arts community celebrate the changes ahead for Taylor Stace Cottage and wish Gallery 1847 well for the future.
