Outstanding results at Lion Foundation New Zealand Amateur Golf Championships

The recent Lion Foundation New Zealand Amateur Golf Championships turned up impressive results with 14 year old Aucklander Cecilia Cho becoming the second youngest player to win the women’s titles.

Cho defeated 12 year old Pupuke Club member Lydia Ko, with Cho and Ko being the youngest finalists in the 115 year history of the Amateur Championships at Titirangi Golf Club.

Western Australia’s Matt Jager (20 year old) took the men’s honours, competing against South Africa’s Nicol van Wyk in the final.

Operating for over 20 years and one of the country’s most widely respected community trusts, The Lion Foundation has been supporting this New Zealand Golf tournament since 2001. 

The Lion Foundation Chief Executive Phil Holden says the charitable trust is proud to encourage the enjoyment and skill of various sporting activities.

“Kiwis love sport and New Zealand Golf is committed to offering programmes and opportunities to help young and upcoming golfers further develop their talents.”

Mr Holden adds: “The Lion Foundation is proud to support New Zealand Golf and we particularly recognise this outstanding championship and the impressive results of all participants.”

The Lion Foundation funds a wide range of arts, cultural, sporting, educational and health focused causes.  This approach has been in place for many years and is designed to ensure the charitable trust’s support reaches as many New Zealand communities as possible.
 
Results: Lion Foundation New Zealand Amateur Championship, Titirangi GC:

Women: Cecilia Cho (Pakuranga) bt Lydia Ko (Pupuke) 4 and 3 (Cho led 4-up after 18).

Men: Matt Jager (Australia) bt Nicol van Wyk (South Africa) 6 and 5 (Jager led 4-up after 18 holes).
