Calling all talented Kiwis - $200,000 up for grabs

The countdown is on for talented Kiwis planning to apply for a 2009 AMP Scholarship with entries closing at midnight on 31 May 2009.

AMP Sponsorship Manager, Kim McWilliams said the company has received a large number of high quality applications to date.

“We’ve been really impressed with the calibre of the people who have applied for a scholarship so far. It’s inspiring to discover how many talented New Zealanders there are in communities throughout the country.”

Ms McWilliams said the scholarships are open to people of any age and background who can demonstrate that they have the ability and attitude to succeed in their chosen field. The scholarships aim to help people achieve their goals. Scholarships worth up to $10,000 each and AMP Premium Scholarships sharing a fund of $80,000 may also be awarded from a pool of $200,000.

“AMP has had a long history of supporting individuals and groups through the many sponsorships we have been involved with. The AMP Scholarships is another way we hope we can help make a difference to the lives of a number of New Zealanders and through them, to their wider community.”

Last year AMP scholarships supported Paul Avery, world champion shearer, Genevieve Sylvester, art conservator in London, Jono Bredin, international netball referee, Adrian Mann, builder of the world’s largest piano and William Trubridge, world record holder in unassisted free diving.

Scholarship applicants, who live in regions where they are offered, can also apply for one of thirteen regional scholarships. The regional scholarships, valued between $1000 and $7,500 each, are to be offered by AMP Adviser Businesses.

Full details of the 2009 AMP Scholarship Programme are available on www.amp.co.nz . Aspiring recipients can apply online at www.amp.co.nz .
