Kiwi Writers Southern Cross Novel Challenge
THE SOUTHERN CROSS NOVEL CHALLENGE
KIWI WRITERS
INSPIRING THE WORLD
May 14th, 2009
Are you looking for a new type of challenge? One that will get your creative juices flowing and possibly make you the next Kiwi version of Dan Brown or J K Rowling?
June is the Southern Cross Novel Competition – or SoCNoC for short. This is the Southern Hemisphere’s version of National Novel Writing Month. It is a month when all budding authors get their pens and paper out, their computers fired up and fingers flexed. They plan, plot and scheme their way to 50,000 words, whether it is short stories, essays, novellas or novel.
This is the third year that Kiwi Writer’s have been running this challenge and it is open to all who are interested in penning the next Pulitzer prize winning novel. Things kick off at midnight, June 1st and end at 11:59pm on June 30th. Some have already calculated out the amount of words per day they require to fulfil the minimum requirement of 50,000 words. But do not feel limited by this figure, with many of last years budding novelists going over this target. We had 143 participants last year, 2 exceeding 100,000 words. Our goal this year is to beat the 2,635,755 words that we set last year.
KiwiWriter’s is the brainchild of Kerryn Angell, and was formed in February 2007 in Wellington with a small team of dedicated writers, who put their own time and effort into building a site specifically for New Zealand Writers by New Zealand Writers. The site itself has forums and monthly challenges to engage the minds and encourage the writer within us all to be released.
To join in the craziness of this challenge, and to help us set a new record for the number of words, head to http://www.kiwiwriter.org/ and sign up. We look forward to seeing you there.
