Writer-in-Residence at the
Michael King Writers’ Centre
(July to December 2009)

The University of Auckland and the Michael King Writers’ Centre are calling for applications for a six-month writer’s residency at the Michael King Writers’ Centre.

The residency will take place between July and December 2009, and is offered with the support of Creative New Zealand.

The residency aims to foster New Zealand writing by providing an opportunity for an established author to work full-time on a major project in an academic environment, together with free accommodation and a studio working space at the Michael King Writers’ Centre in Devonport, Auckland.

The residency is for six months from mid-July 2009, during the university’s second semester, and is open to authors working in the field of fiction, poetry, drama or non-fiction. A stipend of $30,000 is offered.

Applicants should be established writers of proven merit and usually resident in New Zealand or hold New Zealand citizenship. The appointed writer will be required to live at the Michael King Writers’ Centre for the term of the appointment and spend two days each week at the English Department at The University of Auckland.

Applications must include a covering letter with contact details (address, phone and email), a comprehensive CV outlining the writer’s writing experience and publishing record, an outline of the project proposed for the residency and a sample of work (no longer than 1,500 words).
