Musical Phenomenon Pinchas Zukerman Heads to NZ
Recognised as a musical phenomenon for four decades, violinist and supreme musician Pinchas Zukerman performs in New Zealand in August.
In a unique collaboration, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music New Zealand have worked together to bring this musical master to New Zealand audiences, performing in The Zukerman Experience, a special three-day event with the NZSO in Auckland, and touring to six centres with his chamber ensemble, the Zukerman Chamber Players.
Equally respected as a violinist, violist, conductor, teacher and chamber musician, Pinchas Zukerman is a master of our time. His musical genius and prodigious technique have long been a marvel to critics and audiences.
He performs with the world’s finest orchestras and has held numerous Music Director positions including the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s Summer MusicFest, London’s South Bank Festival, and the Dallas Symphony’s International Summer Music Festival. His extensive discography contains more than 100 titles, and has earned him 21 Grammy nominations.
Seven years ago, Zukerman teamed up with four fellow musicians to form the Zukerman Chamber Players. The ensemble, featuring Zukerman (violin), Jessica Linnebach (violin), Jethro Marks (viola), Ashan Pillai (viola) and Amanda Forsyth (cello), performs regularly at the most prestigious summer festivals throughout the United States and has released four recordings.
Zukerman will perform four concerts in Auckland over three days for the spectacular Zukerman Experience – three of the concerts are with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra on Thursday 13 August, Friday 14 August and Saturday 15 August, each featuring the works of Elgar, Brahms and Beethoven, conducted by maestro James Judd. The fourth concert is on Saturday with the Zukerman Chamber Players, presented by Chamber Music New Zealand.
The Zukerman Chamber Players also perform in five New Zealand centres - New Plymouth on Monday 10 August as part of the Taranaki International Festival of the Arts, Wellington on Wednesday 12 August, Dunedin on Sunday 16 August, Christchurch on Monday 17 August and Napier on Tuesday 18 August.
Discounted Zukerman Experience passes available for attending multiple concerts in Auckland.
