Team TransNet Extreme conquer Whangarei

A troubled start to the season has only made a fantastic run at Rally Whangarei sweeter for Glenn Inkster and Glenn Goldring in their TransNet Evo 6.5.

Inkster battled hard with Open class championship leader Geof Argyle through the Saturday morning stages, and the gap was a mere 31 seconds at the lunch time service. Possibly even more impressive than holding down second in the Open class championship was the sixth place overall for the NZRC.

A third place stage result over the daunting Mangapai Caves test and a second on the Pohe Island spectator stage added up to a good afternoon that meant the team held position for their best finish of the season to date.

Day two started the same way as day one finished with two fifths, a sixth and an eighth place stage results, keeping the team in sixth overall, a good start to the day on what Inkster described as ‘what have to be the best stages in the world!’.

But the afternoon was when the team really made their move, capitalizing on others faulting, and some impressive stage times taking them to fourth overall, second in class within twenty seconds of the Open class leader. All this was despite a trip through a ditch and some mangroves on special stage fourteen.

“We have a lot of positives to take away from the weekend. First and foremost we finished both legs, however it was the manner in which we finished that we are most happy with. If you look at the championship so far we have improved in every leg so bring on Wairarapa.” comments Inkster.

The team has now moved into second in the championship, 29 points ahead of Stephen Barker with just two rounds remaining.
