Apples! And crazy animal videos! Yay BATS!

Apples! And crazy animal videos! Yay BATS!

The Blackening has opened, and audiences thus far love it! Well, that's what they've told me... Laurie Atkinson (the Dominion Post reviewer) even compared Paul Rothwell to Sam Shepard, of Fool for Love and Action fame. How bout them apples huh?! See down below for more info, and make sure you book.

It is Volunteer Awareness week this week, so we'd just like to thank everyone who has given their time to BATS for free over the years. The Candy Bar wouldn't function without volunteers, and you wouldn't have recieved your Guanos in the mail. All in all, volunteers make BATS a better place. Thank you. If you would like to be a volunteer, let us know!

What's next after this awesome play, you say? Young and Hungry! All three of them are going to be great this year. Win tickets below.

This week at BATS

_The Blackening

Sometimes you shouldn't go back. But you should come to BATS to see this show...

"Our anticipation is masterfully built by writer, director and actors working in unison ... Once more Paul Rothwell, served by a very fine creative team, has shown us aspects of ourselves we cannot deny. Homegrown 'theatre of unease' is alive and ready to challenge you at BATS."

- John Smythe, Theatreview

The outstanding new work from the 2008 Bruce Mason Award winner, Paul Rothwell, writer of such plays as Hate Crimes, Deliver Us, Kissing Bone and Golden Boys. He's controversial, local and he is back with a dark, creepy, mysterious tale set on a family Apple Orchard. With Jed Brophy, Jack Shadbolt and Johnny Moffatt playing three brothers, and a crack team of designers including Tony DeGoldi (Te Karakia), Jennifer Lal (Turbine), Stephen Gallagher (The Lovely Bones) and Paul McLaughlin (HOTEL) directing. It's gonna be pretty damn fine.

_Win tickets to Young & Hungry!

Young and Hungry has three plays, so we reckon winning a double pass to all three is a pretty big. So, for the next two weeks we challenge you to a creative writing competition! Write us some poetry or prose containing the words Oyster, Sit, On, it, Urban & Hymns, and you're in with a chance. BATS staff will be judging on Wednesday 1st of July and we will be looking for wit, intelligence and general sass.

A big congratulations to Lissa Chong, who won last week's prize. Woop Woop!

_Mental Health Break

Get inside the enigma that is Paul Rothwell - listen to an interview with him from Public Address here. Or would you just prefer to eat apples? Here you go.

And now, for something completely ridiculous: we bring you Dramatic Chipmunk, a Cat flushing the toilet and the Mean Kitty Song (surely THE Hip Hop Song for animals).

And for a story that should really be made in to a play, check out the scary washine machine. One of Trade Me's greatest moments.

BOOK NOW

To book for any performance at BATS email book@bats.co.nz with your name, the show, date and number of tickets. We will reply to confirm your booking and you can pay when you come to the show. Choice!
