Kids get Skills – Netball style

School kids from Auckland schools in the Franklin, Central Auckland and North Shore areas were given the opportunity to learn a few valuable skills from some of New Zealand’s best Netball talent on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.

The ANZ Skills Sessions were designed to support grassroots netball and with support from Netball New Zealand, Counties Manukau Netball Association, Netball Auckland Waitakere and Netball North it brought elite players and coaches to local Netball lovers. It was a free event and featured ANZ Championship players and drills designed specifically for school aged netballers.

Year 5 and 6 participants benefited from the interactive drills with some of New Zealand’s ANZ Championship LG Mystics players on hand to share their knowledge and help improve passing, catching and shooting skills.

“It was great to see the kids actively involved with the fundamental skills of Netball as well as spending time with their Netball heroes. That experience alone is something they will never forget”, says Briar Martindale, Netball New Zealand Netball Development Manager.

The children also took home everything they need to get moving on their Netball journey, in the hope that more young children take up Netball as their winter sport of choice.

ANZ Head of Sponsorship Sue McGregor is pleased the introduction of the ANZ Skill Sessions means that ANZ now supports all levels of Netball from school and grass roots right through to international Netball.

“We recognise that fantastic Netball starts at a local level and by creating a great experience for Netball lovers with the ANZ Skills Sessions; we hope to help grow the sport throughout local communities.” She said
