Prominent and successful Kowis, including Joon Yi, the electorate agent to the Hon. Murray McCully, and Dr Hans Everts, the chairman of the Diversity Trust, will be speaking and sharing their experiences at ‘Kowis in Action’, the annual Kimchi and Marmite Conference, sponsored by The University of Auckland, Hyundai, UNESCO and Accounting House at the University of Auckland’s Business School, Owen Glenn building on July 11th.
A Kowi is person with a unique Korean and NZ fused- identity. This fusion of the Korean and the Kiwi gives us rich resources to draw from, and with a balanced diet of ‘Kimchi’ and ‘Marmite’, The Kowiana Association of New Zealand, who organizes this conference annually, believes that Kowis can fly.
The inaugural Kimchi and Marmite Conference ‘Finding Kowi’ last year discussed the Kowi identity and issues of what it means to be a Kowi. Building on last year’s conference, ‘Kowis in Action: When Kowis take flight’ will be more focused on offering practical advice and support for different fields of careers and pathways of study, as well as providing networking opportunities. The event is an open forum to inspire of younger generations of Kowis, as well as addressing and voicing their concerns.
The conference organizers are a small group of young motivated Kowis from diverse backgrounds, who each bring their passion and different experiences and strengths to inspire younger generations of Kowis to embrace the cultural reservoir available to them as Kowis.
Registrations are now open online ($30) on the Kowiana website (www.kowiana.org.nz) for Kimchi and Marmite ‘Kowis in Action: When Kowis take Flight’.
