Aunty Moves In – On Maori Television!

Real people, real problems – there are times when families need nothing short of their own fairy godmother to help them through the rocky terrain of modern life.

From money woes to health problems, strife with the teenagers and love life troubles, AUNTY MOVES IN is the new series that answers that call for help, in the form of some big-hearted aunties.

AUNTY MOVES IN premieres on Maori Television on Monday September 21 at 9.00 PM, and features Amiria Reriti and Ata Te Kanawa, real life aunties, who are also fully-qualified - with honours - from the University of Life.
“This is practical advice for specific hurdles and life problems that many of us face in life,” says producer Karla Rodgers.
“Amiria and Ata are strong, educated Maori women, holding respected positions in society. Their joint life experience gives them great breadth and understanding of many of the topics the series will cover. Their advice is delivered with compassion and strength, and lightened with classic aunty humour – and love.”
Each week, an aunty will literally move in to a home, assess their needs and provide advice and support. Ella Henry will also take part in the series as a ‘guest aunty’.
Some of the issues explored include a woman battling breast cancer, who with the help of the Cancer Society is also determined to feel good again; a family that has lived through generations of alcohol abuse; teen parents that have resolved to stay together, and a part-time father who needs help to make his house a home for his adored daughter.
“The show idea came about after a discussion about our own aunties, says Rodgers. “They were the “other” mother in the family, so to speak, the ones who didn’t accept excuses, and could always detect the best-constructed fib. They always had the right no-nonsense advice, and solutions to many of life’s problems.”
Get down to the nitty-gritty of real life families, and real life problem-solving with AUNTY MOVES IN, to premiere on Maori Television on Monday September 21 at 9.00 PM.
