MTV New Zealand Celebrates The Life Of “The King Of Pop”, Michael Jackson

AUCKLAND, Wednesday 8 July 2009 – MTV New Zealand is to dedicate a whole day of programming to celebrate the life of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

From 6am today, all MTV New Zealand programming will focus on Michael Jackson; from music videos through to vignettes and programmes on the pop legend, including a two hour special Michael Jackson, King of Pop.

Michael Jackson, King of Pop is a retrospective of his childhood, the rise of Jackson 5, his solo career and his dominating presence in the music world. Through the show, MTV pays homage to Jackson who has done more for music and popular culture than any other artist; decades of musical integrity and genius has seen his influence cross generations, races, genders and even continents.

The Michael Jackson programming won’t stop there though – the same day, MTV New Zealand will be screening the 2009 BET Awards; dedicated to the life, legacy and legend of the music icon. The ninth annual BET Awards became a full-blown celebration of the life and music of the “King of Pop”.

The 90-minute highlight show saw the star-studded crowd laughing, crying and standing in ovation at performances and speeches dedicated to Jackson. R&B legends New Edition, Ne-Yo, Ciara and host Jamie Foxx all pay tribute to Michael Jackson, while Janet Jackson addressed the crowd on behalf of her family.

Michael Jackson, King of Pop screens 8am and 6:30pm
2009 BET Awards screens 10am and 5pm
