A fresh air blows into Wellington: David Rovics
A great gale of fresh air blows into Wellington: David Rovics
Riot-folk musician David Rovics is headed to Wellington on 15 August for two very different rousing, rebellious, and downright rocking shows.
Saturday 15 August will see an all ages concert featuring a selection of provocative and satirical songs from Rovics 7 albums, with support from local "finger-clicking good" favourites the Klezmer Rebs.
Meanwhile, on the afternoon of Sunday 16 August a sing-a-long pirate party will swing into action, with Rovics' songs about penguins, pirates and Punk Rock Babies engaging and entertaining kids of all ages.
Described as the musical voice of the US progressive movement, Rovics has spent most of his time on the road since the mid-90s, playing hundreds of shows every year throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Japan. Regularly sharing the stage with the likes of Billy Bragg and the Indigo Girls, Rovics' has been called "a great gale of invigorating fresh air".
Over a hundred of his songs are available for free download via his website - www.davidrovics.com. There's even something special for the ankle-biters, a full album of Rovics' pirate songs for kids, also available for free download.
David Rovics will make you laugh, he will make you cry, and he will make the revolution irresistible. In the words of folk music legend Pete Seeger, "Listen to David Rovics."
To top it all off the money raised will be going to a good cause. The show on August 15 is a benefit for those arrested and still facing serious charges (including a certain klezmer clarinet musician) arising from the 15 October 2008 ‘terror raids’.
