Lauded by the media as ‘one of the brightest new things on the New Zealand music scene’ (The Herald) and in the wake of his debut album release on June 15, Stevie Starr releases the music video to his second single ‘We Hope In All Things New’.
‘We Hope In All Things New’ is a visual collage of poetry and symbols representing Starr’s new world of hope where there is ‘no more retribution’. ‘Starr paints a unique picture’. (The Waikato Times)
Directed by Canadian-born Laurie Wright, winner of the Women in Film and Television (WIFT) award for the best short written or directed film by a woman in the 2008 48 Hour Film Festival, the video is a visual feast of poetry, held, flipped and transformed in a choreographed masterpiece. “It is an unreal world, an imagined world, full of ‘it’ cameo girls, kinas, dancers and newness, but you have to use your imagination to see it,” Starr says.
A preview can be viewed at the youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgLzm0c2Mzs.
Described as: ‘a mighty talent with potential to grow into New Zealand’s Bright Eyes’ while receiving a four star review in The Sunday Star Times plus The Waikato Times, and noted as an ‘Act To Look Out For In 2009’ in Rip It Up Magazine, Starr’s LP is distributed by Border Music and ‘juxtaposes straight vocal guitar pop with subversive lyrical themes. With moody electronic tinged compositions marinated in a propensity for emotive classical style arrangements; his debut is an enjoyable listening experience to say the least'. RIU
This music video follows his first single ‘The Rising Tide of Conformity’, which was released on Tuesday 21 April, available as a free download at www.thesteviestarr.com.
