We're almost not Young anymore

Last week alert! Last week alert! Yep, it's the last week to see those hot young (and hungry) thangs on the stage in the whimsical Oyster, the funny ha ha Sit on It, and the gritty Urban Hymns. Tickets are going out the door faster than any Young and Hungry years I can remember, so best get your booking game on!

Next week I will be writing this in my painting clothes, in the thick of Maintenance Week. If you have any spare time to come down and titivate let us know - many hands make light work and all that!

If you'd like a sneaky peek at what's going on at BATS after the working bee, check these out...

_Oyster

by Vivienne Plumb

6.30pm, until Saturday 25 July (no show Sun/Mon)

Tickets: $16 full / $13 Concession, or get a season pass for just $38 full, $28 concession!

Dolores Romero sings like an angel; Gaia wants to save the world and Napolean wants to travel far away from it; Velma is into cruelty-free pork, Lelani wants to beat her up and Chevy thinks he can explain everything. But what they all really want to know is who they are, and where they belong in this big wide world.

"The name draws together what might otherwise seem to be disparate story lines about a range of characters. There is roughness and tenderness throughout, and eventually we see that those who are roughest on the outside are the most vulnerable within. And for most, by the end, the world is indeed their oyster." - John Smythe, Theatreview

Tickets: $16 full / $13 Concession, or get a season pass for just $38 full, $28 concession!

A comedy for chicks, dicks and anyone who has ever wondered why girls spend so much time in the bathroom. Set entirely in the ladies toilet of a trashy nightclub, Sit on It is awash with witty dialogue and authentic characters – be prepared to be grossed out, affronted and laughing in the aisles!

"The play is funny in places, but also exceedingly gross in others..." - Ewen Coleman, Dominion Post

_Urban Hymns

by Miria George

9.30pm, until Saturday 25 July (no show Sun/Mon)

Tickets: $16 full / $13 Concession, or get a season pass for just $38 full, $28 concession!

Money talks in Joseph’s neighbourhood and the market place rules. But when he can no longer make the cut Joseph turns to Tobias for an answer and together they make the worst decision of their lives. Survival, greed, art, music, drugs and crime – everyone is searching for their own version of freedom.

"A gripping and compelling piece of theatre... The poetry of Hone Tuwhare woven througout the play gives it an unusual lyricism, which coupled with a mesmerising musical beat made the production hauntingly surreal" - Ewen Coleman, Dominion Post

_The Pit Bar happenings

Come on down Joe Blossom and the National Average this Thursday! Joe is just back from the US of A where he picked up some yeeha and a hat. Should be a nice gig, from 10.30pm. And he just happens to have a track called Man on the Moon on his MySpace page. Bless.

For all the goodness, check out www.myspace.com/pitbar

_Competition

Nobody entered our competition last week - we feel so unloved! We're going off to sulk in a corner for a week, with another competition next BATSmail.

_Mental Health Break

Ahhh, democracy. Such a beautiful thing, especially when you can create a referendum of your own...

I am sure you all know that today is the anniverary of Apollo 11's moon landing - and if it's all a bit much for you, check out the bunnies in space. It could be the next step for last year's STAB show, Apollo 13:Mission Control, I reckon.

Or, just make yourself some paperplanes and fly yourself. Far easier.
