BikeNZ confident government has Cycleway right.

BikeNZ is confident that the public’s support for the cycleway project will be well rewarded with many exciting new cycling opportunities to be created following John Key’s announcement of the government’s plans.

Kieran Turner, BikeNZ’s CEO, is excited for the future of cycle tourism in New Zealand. “The seven initial Great Rides the govt is to develop will provide a fantastic introduction to the world class cycling opportunities New Zealand has to offer. In addition to the seven “Quick Start” projects, we’re really encouraged by the number of quality proposals being developed throughout the country.”

“The government should be congratulated for adopting a sound and reasoned approach to developing the Great Rides Cycleway concept” says Mr Turner. “Rather than rush in, the government is working closely with a range of experts and local communities to ensure we get quality cycle tourism opportunities and the return of investment for local economies. It is important to recognise the contribution cycling and tourism champions in local communities are playing in delivering the Government’s vision”.

“The Government has provided us a great starting platform, one that BikeNZ is keen to build on. As the national cycling organisation with a passion and purpose to promote cycling in New Zealand, BikeNZ will be keen to ensure we continue to develop a range of great riding opportunities and experiences for all kiwi cyclists to enjoy”.

BikeNZ see cycle tourism as a key part of developing a cycling culture in New Zealand and links well to BikeNZ broader programme encouraging new people get on their bikes and improving cycling in New Zealand.
