One Brand New Home In Eleven Days

Carters Big Build – One Brand New Home In Eleven Days

The Big Night In Telethon 09

This Tuesday 28 July Carters will begin a race against the clock to construct the final build phase of the perfect kiwi bach for charity auction on www.sella.co.nz.

With just eleven days until the Big Night In Telethon 09, the Big Build will be no mean feat

Kicking off with a $1 reserve, the online auction will run from Monday 27 July until Sunday 9 August, with all proceeds going to the Big Night In Telethon 09 for KidsCan StandTall Charitable Trust.

Julie Helson, KidsCan StandTall Charitable Trust Executive Director believes the Carters Big Build is a creative way of making it easier to give this year.

“By bidding on the Carters Big Build, someone has the opportunity to walk away with a great new home, and the rare opportunity of knowing that they have made a very kind donation to the struggling children in our own backyard,” says Julie.

For each of the 28,000 children currently supported by KidsCan StandTall Charitable Trust, it costs approximately $180 per year to provide them with sufficient food, shoes and clothing.

There are currently 30,000 children around the country on an urgent waiting list to receive help from these programmes.

The Carters Big Build is being driven by long term Carters and KidsCan StandTall brand ambassador, John ‘Cocksy’ Cocks, who is devoting himself to the Big Build over the coming twelve days in order to make a difference to this cause in the long run.

“We set out to do something that would help as many children as possible,” says Cocksy. “Because Carters donated most of the raw building materials, and we have donated our time, the sale of this home could potentially help KidsCan pull several thousand desperate Kiwi kids out of poverty, and we would consider that a success.”

Phase one of the Carters Big Build was completed by 32 Unitec Masters Architectural (Professional) students in 2008, as a result of Lecturer Dave Strachan of Strachan Group Architects wanting to get his students involved with something that they would never forget. “We wanted to give our students the opportunity to work on site, and do something for an important cause and Cocksy came to us with the right opportunity,” he says. “We are now watching the Big Build in great anticipation of how much money Cocksy and the Carters team generate for KidsCan.”

At the close of the auction the successful bidder will purchase the home, and have the opportunity to make an offer on the land package located in coastal Mangawhai, 90 minutes north of Auckland. All proceeds from the sale of the house will go directly to the recipient charity of the Big Night In Telethon 09, KidsCan StandTall Charitable Trust.

People looking for a new home or bach should go to www.sella.co.nz and make a bid. To make a general donation to the Big Night In Telethon 09 visit www.bignightin.co.nz or call 0800 BNI 2009.
