Final Weet-Bix All Black Collector Cards Now Live
Final Weet-Bix All Black Collector Cards Now Live
The final nine Weet-Bix All Blacks Power Plays collector cards, from the series launched earlier this month, can now be brought to life, allowing All Black fans around the country to check out the moves of their favourite players.
The collector cards utilise an innovative 3D technology developed by Total Immersion in France and the USA, and Dreamscape in Australia. The technology allows fans who hold any of the 10 special trading cards in front of a webcam to witness a three-dimensional avatar of an All Blacks player, complete with a unique power play move.
It’s called ‘augmented reality’, a combination of a real image with a virtual one. Rotate the card, and the figure rotates in full perspective, allowing fans to check out their favourite players from all angles.
Weet-Bix Senior Brand Manager, Tanne Andrews, says his team are very proud to have brought this world-leading technology to New Zealand.
“We had some initial teething problems, which were expected given the very new platform we were trialling, and have now further streamlined the site and improved the user experience.”
The Weet-Bix All Blacks Power Play collector cards are the first to use the technology in New Zealand, and only the second in the world.
Mr Andrews explains how the technology uses picture and text recognition software to bring the cards to life.
“We think Kiwis are going to be really impressed once they see the technology in action themselves,” he says.
“Animators from around the globe have worked tirelessly to create exact player lookalikes.”
The series features 53 collector cards in total, with 10 special cards showcasing the revolutionary 3D animation technology and the remaining 43 cards showcasing an entertaining clip of an All Blacks game highlight.
All Black players featured on the 3D cards are: Dan Carter, Richie McCaw, Joe Rokocoko, Tony Woodcock, Conrad Smith, Jimmy Cowan, Ali Williams, Rodney So’oialo, Kevin Mealamu and Mils Muliaina.
