National Wetland Trust Anniversary AGM
Montana Book Award Winner to Speak at National Wetland Trust Anniversary AGM
Janet Hunt, author of Wetlands of New Zealand: A bitter-sweet story, will be the guest speaker at the National Wetland Trust’s 10th AGM being held on Wednesday 19 August from 7pm at the Auckland Regional Council, Cnr Pitt and Hopetoun Streets, Auckland CBD.
Wetlands of New Zealand: A bitter-sweet story won the 2008 Montana New Zealand Book Awards Environment category, the Montana Medal for Non- Fiction 2009, and was a finalist in the 2009 Royal Society of New Zealand Science Book Award. Hunt’s previous books include Hone Tuwhare: a biography, A Bird in the Hand: Keeping New Zealand Wildlife Safe; and From Weta to Kauri: a guide to the New Zealand Forest. Hunt, who is both author and designer of Wetlands of New Zealand: A bitter-sweet story, will share tales of her adventures researching and writing it, describing the varied wetlands she met along the way.
Her journey started with a visit to the Manawatu Estuary in October 2006 for the celebration of its listing as New Zealand’s sixth Ramsar site (internationally significant wetland) carrying on to wetlands in Central Otago, the Sutton Salt Lake, upper Paerau Valley scroll plain, Cromwell, Queenstown, Invercargill and the southern estuaries of Awarua, Waituna as well as Sinclair’s Wetland and Taieri Mouth.
