French racing comes to New Zealand
The TAB will begin offering betting on two race meetings from France every Tuesday night from next week, it announced today.
Initially, the New Zealand Racing Board will import and offer betting on racing from two venues in France every Tuesday as a trial. The races will be broadcast live on Trackside Television.
New Zealand Racing Board Racing Manager Michael Dore said the racing would be a combination of thoroughbred flat and hurdles as well as trotting.
“The race commentary will be in English and the betting pools will be commingled with our Australian partners, Tabcorp,” Mr Dore said.
“Australia has been offering betting on French racing for a number of months now and it has proved to be popular with punters across the Tasman. If it proves popular here then we could look to add more French racing to our weekly schedule,” he said.
The addition of French racing late on Tuesday nights means the TAB will be able to offer betting through to about 3am the next morning. It will also be complemented by a combination of Australian, UK and South African racing, Mr Dore said.
“Our agreement with the PMU in France also means we will be able to offer betting on all the premier races from France such as the prestigious Group 1 Prix de l’Arc D’Triomphe race in October each year.”
The first four weeks of French race meetings the TAB will offer betting on will be:
Tuesday 11 August Deauville Flat
Vichy Flat
Tuesday 18 August Clairefontaine Flat
Vichy Flat
Tuesday 25 August Clairefontaine Flat/Hurdles
La Capelle Trotting
Tuesday 01 September Longchamp Flat
Saint Malo Trotting
