Transition Towns Expo

Press Release

Transition Towns Expo

The first event of its kind in New Zealand, the Transition Towns Expo is taking place September 6th-19th in Wellington. It has been designed so that people can debate, discuss, experience and engage what Transition Towns have to offer, and talk to people from groups already making change in their local communities.
“The expo is a pretty unique and exciting event. It’s about people meeting people, and debating ideas. It’s about seeing what can happen, and getting inspired to get involved” said Jolyon White a member of the group organizing this event.

Transition Towns seek to make tomorrow’s world today’s reality. They are leading the way in providing a positive local response to the challenges and opportunities we face due to climate change and the increasing reality of the demise of cheap oil.

“I really like the Transition Towns movement. Instead of focusing on what is wrong, Transition Towns imagines what a community would look like with everything going right, and then moves towards that. Holding up that picture provides real hope, and makes a refreshing change from all the doom and gloom about climate change and peak oil” said Jolyon.

During the first week there will be debates at lunchtime and in the evening between local leaders. A continuous exhibit on Transition Towns will be on display throughout the two weeks.

So come and meet the groups working to spread urban gardens, build resilient communities, develop local economies, and assist the transition to a low-energy society.

The expo is a joint ventures between the Transition Towns collective and the Church. Come and experience what transition towns are all about and how you might join in being part of the change.
