What is New Zealand’s Favourite Recipe?

MEDIA RELEASE 1 September 2009

What is New Zealand’s Favourite Recipe?

Competition open for all Kiwis to enter recipes and win prizes

Entries are now open in a new national on-line competition to find New Zealand’s favourite recipe.

The competition is open to amateur home cooks of all ages to enter their best recipe at the web site www.nzfavouriterecipe.co.nz and have the New Zealand public vote for their favourites.

Entrants can compete in four categories: Baking & Desserts, Main Meals, Snacks & Light Meals, and Starters and Extras.

The recipe that gets the most votes will win a grand first prize of $5000 in cash. There are also prizes of $1000 for each category winner, plus 10 more prizes of $1000 for overall runners-up.

Anyone who votes or enters a recipe will also be in to win one of 100 grocery vouchers valued at $100 each.

Well-known New Zealand food writer and chef, Paul Jobin, is enthusiastically supporting the campaign and especially encourages people to enter those much-loved recipes that have been in families for generations.

“I have so many great memories of enjoying food my grandma made when I was growing up that are still an inspiration to me in my cooking today,” says Jobin.

“Every Kiwi home has got that folder full of favourite home made recipes that have been used so many times you could almost lick the delicious, familiar flavours off the page. We want Kiwis to dig out these great recipes and share them with the whole country.” Jobin says there are bound to be plenty of standard Kiwi dishes out there to which home cooks add their own particular tasty twist or secret ingredient that makes them deserving of the prize.

“The thing to remember is that the best cooking is not necessarily found in fancy restaurants, it’s on the tables in our homes made by everyday cooks from great recipes that work.

“If you reckon you have the best recipes for spaghetti Bolognese, scones or whitebait fritters, enter them on the web site and tell your family and friends to vote for yours.” Every week, Paul will be appearing on the web site to provide commentary on the competition leaders and share thoughts and tips for bringing out the best in home cooked recipes.

To enter a recipe on the New Zealand’s Favourite Recipe web site, simply enter the recipe title, description, ingredients, and directions for cooking, as well as the number of servings it makes and the category. You can enter as many different recipes as you wish.

While you can vote for as many different recipes as you wish, you can only vote for a recipe once against a valid email address.

Full terms and conditions can be viewed at the web site, www.nzfavouriterecipe.co.nz Entries will be accepted up until 25 October. Votes for recipes will continue to be accepted until 8 November. Winners will be advised on Tuesday 10 November by email and announced shortly after.
