Duets and Hot Showcases

Get your gladrags on and your dancing shoes at the ready, Duets and Hot are pirouetting towards us!   

Duets will showcase performances from a range of leading dancers including two separate duets from the prestigious Royal NZ Ballet Company.  One of their pas de deux is the applauded work Concerto by world renowned choreographer Sir Kenneth MacMillan. Concerto is one of MacMillan’s most popular works and is in the repertoire of most of the major companies today. The piece has immediate appeal and has been called one of MacMillan's happiest inventions, perfectly matching the airy textures of Shostakovich's youthful Piano Concerto No.2 with choreography of classical inventiveness.

The second duet from Royal New Zealand Ballet will be Through To You which is choreographed by ex Royal New Zealand Ballet dancer Andrew Simmons, it has been described by the National Business Review as “an absolute gem of a work, sparkling in all dimensions”.

Duets also feature salsa experts Vivio & Greydis, TMC Dance Crew, TVNZ’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Jonny Williams & Kristy Boyd and many more. Duets celebrates partner dancing and duets by beautifully, humorously and dramatically exploring the space and relationship between two bodies through ballet, salsa, ballroom, tap, hip hop, flamenco, ceroc and more.

The Hot showcase is also back for more high-energy feats of krumping, popping, locking and breaking! New Caledonian hip hop crew Posue Company visit NZ for the first time with a thrilling performance, led by Moroccan/Parisian dancer/choreographer Soufiane Karim.

Local South Auckland crew GHOST, highly acclaimed for their performance in Tempo 08’s Fresh Cuts programme, bring their own theatrical voice to the stage with a mix of hip hop, comedy and contemporary dance in The Remedy Collection. Top performers from Dziah Dance Academy join in to add their latest moves to the mix. Get ready for the hottest beats, breaks and electric styles of urban street dance.
