Cor blimey! Another record sized Jandal splurge
The call to cams has been well-and-truly heard with a record number of entries received for the national DIY music video competition, Radio Active 89FM's Handle the Jandal.
One hundred and thirty three entries have been received for the 2009 event, beating last year's record tally of 122 and continuing a fine run of ever-increasing interest in the competition.
The main centres of Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland were all well-represented in the entries, with some coming from as far a field as Waiuku, Gisborne, Te Horo, Paekakariki and Torbay.
Musicians featuring in the entrants include Charlie Ash, White Swan Black Swan, Sheba, James Duncan, The Upbeats, Tourettes, Minuit, Tommy Ill, Electric Wire Hustle and Rap Authoritar.
Handle the Jandal, organised by Wellington radio station Radio Active 89FM is the annual competition that matches rising music stars with up’n’coming filmmakers. All videos must be completely self-funded and may only use New Zealand music.
The 133 entries will be whittled down to 15 finalists. A panel of judges will then decide Best Editing, Best use of Exploitative Tactics to Promote a Band, Best Cinematography, Best Concept, Best Animation and Rising Star. An audience vote at the awards will decide the seventh golden flip flop category: the Favourite Handle the Jandal Video award winner.
Judges for this year's competition have been announced as New Zealand music legend Roger Shepherd, NZ On Air's David Ridler and Under The Mountain film director Jonathan King.
The nationwide DIY music video competiton, Handle the Jandal will be held at Wellington's Embassy Theatre, Thursday October 29. Pre-sale tickets are $15 +bf on sale soon.
The prize pool, for this year's competition has been set, with services and equipment on offer to help give New Zealand's budding filmmakers and music artists a firm leg up into an exciting future. Panavision, Sticky Pictures, Portsmouth and Park Road Post are all donating a truck-load of filmmaking goodness for a Golden Jandal winner.
Handle the Jandal are well stoked with the support from Juice TV, Manky Chops, Kraft:Haus, Nektar, Spyglass and Hovering Lion.
