Mayor to Present Condolence Book to Lady Morrison

ROTORUA 12.10.09: The names and personal memories of several hundred Rotorua people have been recorded in a special condolence book for the late Sir Howard Morrison.

Mayor Kevin Winters is planning to personally present the book to Lady Kuia Morrison and the Morrison family on behalf of the Rotorua community.

The book was made available for the public to sign by the Rotorua District Council in the council Civic Centre during the week following the recent death of Sir Howard.

“The condolence book is crammed from cover to cover with very personal messages, memories and reflections from people of all walks of life.

“It’s particularly touching to read heartfelt messages from Rotorua residents who had never personally met Sir Howard but to whom he clearly meant so much. This is testament to the qualities of the man himself and how he touched the lives of so many people over six generations.

“They remember him as an entertainer, campaigner, cultural ambassador, philanthropist passionate promoter of Rotorua and New Zealand, and a great New Zealander.”

Mayor Winters said he is looking forward to delivering the condolence book to Lady Morrison as he was sure it would be treasured by Sir Howard's whanau as a very personal expression of aroha from the people of Rotorua.
