Lion Foundation grant helps keep Kiwi families strong
New Zealand families have better access to support at Plunket Family Centres thanks to a special grant from The Lion Foundation.
Seven Plunket areas – Auckland, Canterbury, Counties Manukau, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu/Wanganui, and Northland - shared in the $500,000 grant which went towards helping improve services in family centres around the country.
The funding has been used to cover centre expenses ranging from new toys for toy libraries to repairs and maintenance.
Phil Holden, CEO of The Lion Foundation, says it is important to The Lion Foundation to know that the funds given to community organisations directly benefits local communities and local families.
“We want this funding and our support of Plunket to really help as many families in New Zealand as possible. It is fantastic to be able to support Plunket in a significant way. Plunket is an organisation which works to promote positive parenting and help make families stronger and we think that is critically important to the welfare of our country.”
Jenny Prince, Plunket CEO says Plunket centres provide a gateway through which families receive support and information.
“I want to thank The Lion Foundation for recognising the important role these centres play in assisting families to build strong relationships and supportive networks in their communities.”
The grant will also help other centres in the country cover costs such as vehicle leases and office administration costs. Part of the grant will go towards paying salaries of staff members that help run centres.
