What’s new at the show
There’s plenty of new entertainment on offer at this year’s Royal New Zealand Show in Christchurch.
Gareth Morgan –
Seminars
Gareth Morgan will be presenting a seminar
titled ‘Up Close with Gareth Morgan: the dairy opportunity
in Brazil’ to Show visitors on Friday 13 November. Low
cost pastoral dairy farming in the savannah of Brazil offers
a substantial opportunity for New Zealand dairy farmers to
diversify their risk but stay within the business sector in
which they are expert. Gareth is personally involved in a
dairy farm in Brazil, along with his NZ dairy farming
partners. Gareth and his team will also be on site all three
days at the GMI booth in the Trade and Feature Pavilion.
Flippin’ Circus
Performing on the Village Green
daily, Flippin’ Circus will be presenting ‘Flip Flop,
Truck Stop’. The show is a collaboration of four
performers including New Zealand’s number one globe
walker, Mac Islas. The show will include double trapeze,
globe walking, adagio and the finale with performer Shelley
Dingwall suspended from a crane while others launch off a
trampoline mounted on the back of a truck.
8 Seconds
Bullriding
8 seconds, the amount of time needed for
glory, but not all rides end in glory. The 8 Seconds
Bullriding Company, founded by Duncan and Tina Mackintosh,
and Lachlan and Sonya Mackintosh, will present bullriding
demonstrations daily at the Show. The husband and wife teams
decided it was time to bring the highly charged, adrenalin
packed sport of bullriding to New Zealand.
Canterbury
Contractors Federation
The Canterbury Contractors
Federation site will have daily entertainment including Doug
the Digger (daily), Digger Demonstrations
(Wednesday/Thursday) and an Excavator Operator Competition
on Friday. Doug the Digger is a travelling roadshow that
promotes safety to New Zealanders of all ages. Creator
Alistair McIntyre (aka Mr Mac), was formerly a heavy
machinery operator for 20 years. After crushing his right
arm between a building and a truck in a workplace accident
in 1986, Alistair had no choice but to change careers.
Alastair is now a motivational speaker and author.
Punk
the Clown – Circus Spectacular
If you thought clowns
weren’t cool then you haven’t met Punk. Combine studs,
fake tattoos and crazy hair with a red nose and funny shoes
and you’ve got the coolest clown in town. Show visitors
will roll with laughter as they watch this chaotic clown
blunder her way through a series of misadventures. Punk will
be performing daily on the Tip Top Stage alongside Show
favourite the Tip Top Popsicle Band.
The Royal New Zealand Show runs from 11-13 November at Canterbury Agricultural Park Christchurch. Attracting 120,000 people, over 7000 livestock and feature competition entries and close to 600 trade exhibitors, plus three full days of entertainment, it is the premier agricultural and pastoral event in the country.
