Colour, style, laughs, maybe some tears, live singing, lots of fun and glamour is what people can expect from Confessions of a Drag Queen a new play to hit Wellington’s BATS Theatre in November.
The show tells the story of a young boy who after discovering his sexuality in the steamy shores of Brazil, moves to the land of the long white cloud, Wellington to be more exact, where he is introduced to the Gay nightlife and the Drag world along with its consequences!
Confessions of a Drag Queen is written, produced and performed by Toi Whakaari Performing Arts Management Student, Brazilian and Miss Drag Wellington – Ricky Beirao.
"The idea for the show came to me in one of those crazy middle-of-the-night moments," Beirao tells. "I started writing about the many funny situations I get into when I'm in drag. I love the way people react to me when I'm Rhubarb.”
Ricky Beirao is also known as his alter ego Rhubarb Rouge, who is ‘sharing the stage’ with him. Rhubarb Rouge was recently crowned Miss Drag Wellington 2009. He has been doing drag for 4 years and is very excited about his one ‘woman’ show.
Ricky makes a promise to his dedicated audience of something new and exciting, most of the songs in the show will not be lyp synched. ‘Rhubarb’ will be singing live.
People can stay in touch with what is going on with the play through the blog www.confessions.tk.
