Inner city gala to assist high density community

Inner city gala to assist high density community

A group of Wellington city council tenants is organising a gala at the Arlington Community Centre in Taranaki Street on Saturday 7 November to provide those in their neighbourhood with emergency supplies and equipment.

The five hour gala, starting at 10am, will sell ethnic food, coffee and cake, and provide onsite electrical repairs. There will be a BBQ and live music, as well as free disaster awareness information from the Civil Defence. There will be plenty for the kids to enjoy: with a bouncy castle, a petting zoo and face painting on site.

The gala organisers, tenants at the high density Arlington Apartments and surrounding neighbourhood in Hankey and Hopper Streets, have formed a “resilience network” to ensure the smooth running of the event.

The resilience network will also be responsible for purchases with proceeds from the gala, such as provision for water storage, baby formulas, and first aid supplies for more than 200 tenants at the Arlington community.
