Home-grown magazine for budding movie-makers

PRESS RELEASE

Home-grown magazine for budding movie-makers

Budding movie-makers and video hobbyists are being helped to produce better videos thanks to a new home-grown magazine called ViewFinder.

With the growing number of people now able to record video using phones and Œstill¹ cameras, and with high definition cameras getting smaller and cheaper all the time, this new magazine will help readers shoot and edit like the professionals. Launched by Mosaic Media Ltd, the new bi-monthly title is being edited by journalist, photographer and video-maker Steve Hart.

The full colour, perfect bound, glossy magazine is priced at just $8.90 and fills a much-needed gap in the country¹s magazine shelves. Editor and publisher Steve Hart says he launched the magazine because he was unable to find one to buy in the shops.

³I have always been a keen video-maker and thought there must be a magazine out there for me to read but there was nothing made for New Zealanders,² he says. ³So having spotted a gap in the market, and a demand for the product, I decided to launch a magazine for New Zealand hobbyist and semi-pro movie makers.² The first edition of ViewFinder magazine will hit the stores this Monday 16 November and includes an interview with award-winning Topp Twins doco director Leanne Pooley.

She explains what it takes to produce a compelling documentary, talks about how she got into the industry after flunking media school in Canada and reveals what she wants to do next. Award-winning sound engineer Dick Reade writes the audio section of the magazine and Emmy-award winning lighting/camera operator Gary Foster explains how to use natural light to get the best results when shooting on a budget.

TV producer Warren Jones is among the camera reviewers. Issue one includes a review of the latest cameras from Panasonic, JVC, Sony and Canon. There¹s also a review of the new editing software from Apple Final Cut Studio 3.

Steve says reaction to the magazine from organisations servicing the magazine¹s target readership and video-makers has been extremely supportive.

³You only have to look around to see how many keen movie-makers there are in what I think is the most creative country on the planet,² he says. ViewFinder is being distributed by Gordon & Gotch. Its ISSN number is 1179-3651
