Manukau Institute Hosts Hair Award Event
10 November 2009
Trainee hair fashionistas have
the rare privilege of their hair design creations being
judged by renowned specialists in the hair industry and
celebrity hair stylist, Grant Bettjeman.
A carbon
copy competition of one of the country’s biggest hair
award events, Wella Trend Vision Awards, is to take place at
Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) on Thursday 12
November, and will mark the first time tertiary students can
put their works in front of these leading industry
judges.
Gene Cooksley, of the Auckland Hairdressing
Association, says this is the first time the event has been
remodelled and available to a tertiary
institute.
“The hairdressing tutors at MIT are the
most passionate I have come across,” Mr Cooksley says.
“The tutors at Hairdressing School at MIT offer the best
of training and expose their students to the wider market
and competitions as much as possible. We are delighted to
give these young talented students the opportunity to
compete.”
Among the judges will be esteemed
hairstylist and entrepreneur, Grant Bettjeman, and
representatives from the NZ Hairdressing
Association.
The students will start work on their
models on Thursday afternoon at the School of Hairdressing
at MIT and present their creations on the catwalk at the
showcase dinner later in the
evening.
